Middlemount Community School offers a range of sporting events across the school year for students to participate in. The main sporting events are our Swimming Carnival, Athletics Carnival and Cross Country Carnival. All students are encouraged to participate in these days, dress up in their team colours and support their teams. Our school teams are Isaac, Mackenzie and Connors and their respective colours are blue, green and red. In addition to our sporting carnivals students have the opportunity to participate in a range of other sporting endeavours.
Sports trials
Students 10 years and above are able to participate in trials in a variety of sports including; swimming, athletics, cross country, cricket, basketball, netball, league, AFL, soccer, touch, tennis and others. Students in primary school participate in Denham Zone Trials and if selected in this regional team will compete in Capricornia Trials. If selected in the Capricornia team, students (depending on the sport) will have the opportunity to participate in state and national selection trials.
Students in secondary school or students 13 years and older have the opportunity to participate in the same sports, however they participate in the Central Highlands regional trials before competing in Capricornia and State trials.
Interschool sports
Secondary students are able to participate in a round robin competition between other schools in our district in either Rugby League or Netball. Towns and schools that are usually involved include Dysart, Clermont, Emerald, Moranbah and Glendon. This competition is run on one day in each of the first three terms. The winning cluster is then announced. Congratulations to our U13 boys who participated in the winning side of this year’s Rugby League competitions.
