Cultural activities

We have an instrumental music program incorporating percussion, woodwind and brass instruments. Each year, our instrumental teacher runs a recruitment program to identify students for the program. Students are eligible to participate from year 5. In some cases, students from year 4 are recruited. Instrumental Music is a commitment to be taken seriously and as such students are expected to attend all lessons and rehearsals and practise regularly. Students perform on parades and at special school occasions such as awards ceremonies. Students are also encouraged to compete at the Central Highlands Eisteddfod.

Our junior and senior choirs are very active and have had great success at Eisteddfods. Students may join the choir from year 1. Many of our students also perform solos or duets at the Eisteddfod each year.

Wakakirri is a regional, story-dance competition in which students perform a school based production. We are hoping to make this at least a bi-annual event. It involves students in grades from four to seven. Many hours were devoted to this extra-curricular activity in the areas of costume design, makeup, choreography and organisation. Although not placing this year our school received exceptionally positive feedback.
